Strategic Play
A Perigon diagnostic
The business environment has changed. The uncertainty you're navigating isn't cyclical — it's structural, simultaneous, and without clear precedent. The strategic capabilities that served the last decade aren't necessarily the ones this moment demands.
This diagnostic measures four capabilities: Growth, Wayfaring, Elevation and Flow. Together, they constitute what we call Strategic Play: the ability to navigate genuine uncertainty with curiosity, boldness, perspective and flexibility.
The diagnostic runs in two parts. The first asks you to choose between two equally plausible statements — both credible at a senior level. The second asks how consistently certain behaviours show up in your leadership. Your pattern of responses reveals where your instincts naturally sit, how embedded they are in practice, and where you may want to draw on others.
Over twenty years of working with Boards and ExCos on strategy, planning and execution, we've observed that the leadership teams navigating the rise in uncertainty well tend to exhibit — individually and collectively — four capabilities.
This diagnostic asks questions designed to surface an individual's baseline and relative strengths across those four capabilities. It is built from our direct experience rather than a clinical psychology framework.
Part two — behavioural frequency
A different kind of question
The first part revealed your natural strategic orientation. This second part shifts focus. Rather than asking how you naturally think, it asks how consistently certain behaviours actually show up in your work. Answer based on what you genuinely do, not what you aspire to do.
