strategy and planning

why it matters

Your strategy describes how you achieve your purpose, mission or goals. It provides a structured framework with which to develop and prioritise delivery plans and galvanises colleagues to action them. It provides clarity and reassurance to investors and other stakeholders.

Far too often, sustainability (or "ESG") plans sit as an adjunct to a company's core, commercial strategy. This is confusing, inefficient, and ultimately makes it harder to succeed on both the commercial and sustainability elements. Sustainability must be fully integrated into your core strategy to truly unlock value growth and lasting positive impact.

what we do

We partner with ambitious businesses, banks and general partners that are looking to create or overhaul their sustainability approach, from conception to delivery. The resulting sustainability strategy and delivery plans are always fully integrated with company’s core commercial strategy.

our strengths

The benefits of partnering with us to develop your sustainability strategy include...

what's involved

Every client engagement is unapologetically different, but our strategic planning process for sustainability (or “ESG”)

will often contain these building blocks:

Understanding

...of a company's people and planetary impacts, dependencies, risks and opportunities

Prioritisation

...of which impacts, risks and opportunities are most material and can be acted upon

Framework

Development of strategic framework that is fully embedded in the company's core commercial strategy

Delivery

Development of prioritised delivery plans and timelines to most effectively add value with limited resources

KPIs

Creation of key performance (and risk) indicators and targets

Gaps

Identification of data or capability gaps and actions to resolve

Governance

Establishment of accountabilities and pragmatic governance to safeguard delivery

Comms

Plans (and resources) to communicate strategy and targets to internal and external stakeholders

how it works

A strategic planning process is usually undertaken over a number of weeks, sometimes months, although not necessarily with full time ‘on the ground’ support from us. One of our differentiators, alongside our deep corporate strategy and sustainability experience, is that we work very flexibly and develop a partnership bespoke to your company.

Although we can do a lot of work independently, there is no escaping the importance of closely involving the executive team and Board, as well as key colleagues and other stakeholders, in the development of your integrated sustainability strategy. From days of leading in-house strategy teams, we have a lot of experience in running these sort of cross-team, Board-level efforts.

"Perigon was excellent in facilitating a comprehensive strategic planning exercise for us, including fully integrating sustainability considerations and undertaking a detailed materiality assessment. They also brought insight and rigour in guiding our B Corp application. Our Board and Exec team has hugely valued the Perigon team's expertise, pragmatism and guidance."
